Champagne Jacques Selosse is located in the village of Avize, situated in the Côtes des Blancs. It is a three-generation, family-run estate with around 8 hectares of vines in the crus of Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Ambonnay. Producing less than 60,000 bottles each year, the wines of Selosse rank high among the most prized sparkling wines of all. Whilst for a time they embraced biodynamics, they have now adapted and defined their own way of “permaculture” that is to give Mother Nature the most respect and minimize human intervention on vines and its surrounding ecosystem. Selosse categorically rejects malolactic fermentation, which means his rich wines have a bite that is unbeatable.

The wines are then stored up to eight years in the bottle before being disgorged. Just as with Krug, all Selosse’s well-kept wines need at least six months’ bottle age after being disgorged in order for them to be accessible. The dosage is always very low, and only fruit sugar is used to maintain the wine’s natural balance. Selosse’s wines have given Champagne a new dimension, with their unique, vinous, Chardonnay style.

So what do all the different Jacques Selosse cuvees stand for?

Initial

The Grand Cru Brut Initial from Jacques Selosse is a superb cuvée, elaborated from a blend of three vintages. Its production does not exceed 33,000 per year. This tasty blanc de blancs Grand Cru champagne is an outstanding gastronomy wine.

Exquise

The NV Demi-Sec Exquise is the same base blend as the Initiale but with a higher dosage of 24 grams per liter. This is an exotic, spiced wine with plenty of ripe peach and roasted nut aromas and flavors made in a style meant to emphasize freshness.

Substance

Among the line-up, Selosse’s Substance Blanc de Blancs attracts enormous demand around the globe, which is Selosse’s first solera-style cuvee which is normally used for the production of Sherry. It creates a unique oxidative and complex character which is untypical in the region, and certainly being regarded as one of the most memorable fine wines to try in a lifetime

Version Originale

Version Originale is a blend of 3 vintages of Chardonnay, aged for 42 months before disgorgement, and extra brut in style. Vines grow in poor chalk soils at the highest point of the slope which gives fine aromatics of citrus white flowers and with the saline chalkiness a distinct trademark of this cuvee.

Lieux dit Collections

Jacques Selosse Lieux-dits Collection is made up of 6 expressions from 6 different parcels, which include Sous Le Mont (of Mareuil sur Ay; Pinot Noir based), Les Carelles (of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Chardonnay), Le Bout du Clos (of Ambonnay, Pinot Noir based), La Cote Faron (of Ay, Pinot Noir based), Chemin de Chalons (of Cramant, Chardonnay) and Les Chantereines (of Avize, Chardonnay). It’s a great collection for those who wish to taste the difference of terroir in the region of Champagne.

Millesime

Millesime is Jacques Selosse’s interpretation of vintage champagne. Whilst most of Jacques Selosse releases are multi-vintage, this Millesime offers wine lovers a chance to pry into how a vintage character is truly like – as Jacques Selosse embraces Extra Brut dosage treatment. To most, this is the most vinous expression of Selosse.
